Single Pine Tree Penny from the Shire from JRR Tolkien’s fictional Middle Earth. These strikes predate the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies by several years. Coins are new but may have bag dings and wear. Clarity of strikes vary. Each denomination of Shire coinage has 4 variations featuring different trees: pine, elm, willow, and oak. The most common coin found in the pocket of a fairly well-to-do Hobbit, it features a tree and the words “One Penny of the Shire, Abode of the Hobbits.” On the reverse, the four directions and quarters of The Shire and “Shire Year,” the date, and “Michel Delving,” the de facto capital of The Shire. Coin text is inscribed in Tengwar.
