The Search ~ Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 2009. Graphic album. Looks a lot like a Tintin volume. 72 pages, color covers and interior. $18.99 cover price. Originally published in Dutch by the Anne Frank House in cooperation with the Jewish Historical Museum of Amsterdam under the title De Zoektocht. Sequel to A Family Secret.
With the help of her family and Helena, Esther explores her own years of escaping Nazi capture, and seeks specific information on the massacre of her family. She reconnects with Barend, whose family helped her hide, and travels to Israel to find Bob, a former neighbor. Bob, who survived Auschwitz, is finally able to give her the story of her parents' (and his parents') deaths. When Esther says that she can scarcely remember her family's faces, Helena recalls that after the parents were captured, she rescued their photo album; finally Esther can show her grandson his family.
This copy is new. I'm a fairly conservative grader. As always, grading of comics is subjective so check out my scan and be sure this copy would have a home in your collection before bidding or buying.
Although comic book grading is still somewhat subjective, you can expect that the grade I assign to a comic will be accurate. I find that I'm more strict a grader than most people dealing on eBay. I've been dabbling in collectible comics since the late-1960s and participated in the WSA program (#1305) which provided a code of ethics for comics dealers. I've contributed material to the Overstreet Price Guide and published articles in a variety of comic book related periodicals including Comic Book Marketplace, Comic Source, Golden Age Greats, Best of the West, and others.
