Paula Denk ~ This is a genuine vintage cigarette card from the 1930s Bunte Filmbilder series. Card number 14. About 2¼" x 2¾" Excellent with very minor edge wear.
Born in Munich in 1908, Paula Denk was slender brunette, whom the New York Times found "especially attractive as a pert maid" in Peter, Paul, and Nanette (1935). Her entire acting career was spent in German films and television. Her first role was in Das Verliebte Hotel (1933) or The Love Hotel with Anny Ondra and Mathias Wieman. She continued in supporting roles in about five pre-war German films. In 1936 she vanished from the film scene and did not reappear until 1956 when she began a series of TV roles that continued regularly until shortly before her death in 1978. Although information on Denk in English is scarce, her career pattern matches well with stars who opposed the Nazi regime. By the late-1930s, as the regime tightened its grip on the film industry, it was difficult for them to find film work in Germany.
