Lien Deyers or Lien Deijers ~ This is a genuine vintage cigarette card from the 1930s Luxusbild series. Card number 143. About 2" x 2½" Excellent with some minor wear, see my scan. This is probably the nicest card to feature Deyers.
Dutch actress Lien Deyers was discoverd by director Fritz Lang. Lang cast Deyers as Kitty, a major supporting role in the epic silent film Spione (1928) or The Spy. Between 1928 and 1936, she starred in over thirty German films, mostly in the lead female role. Particularly notable are Gold, a 1934 science fiction film starring Hans Albers, and Carl Lamac's Carnival of Love (1934), a romantic comedy.
Deyers married Jewish-American director Alfred Zeisler. When the Nazis came to power, the couple fled Germany for England and eventually the United States. Deyers couldn't find work in Amerian movies although Zeisler went on to moderate success. Lien entered the fashion business where she was not particularly successful. After her marriage to Zeisler failed, Lien's alcoholism led to several confrontations with the authorities. She married and divorced a few times and completly vanished from the public view. The last time she was heard from, was in 1964, when she was in a Las Vegas jail. It is thought that she died shortly after that.
