Karl Ludwig Diehl ~ This is a genuine vintage cigarette card from the 1930s Unsere Bunten Filmbilder series. Card number 89. About 2" x 2½" A super example, see my scan. This card was scanned through a plastic protector which was not in as good a shape as I had thought.
Diehl is probably best known for his role in Paul Wegener's Ein Mann will nach Deutschland (A German Wants to Go Home), an UFA-production that premiered on 26th July 1934, which portrays a German engineer living in South America who hears in 1914 of war in Europe. Realising his obligation for his fatherland, he sets out for Europe, joined by a German comrade. The journey to Germany involves physical hardships, treacherous terrain, and hostile seas, obstacles faced by patriots who have only one thought: home to Germany to help a fatherland under attack.
He was born on 14 August 1896 in Halle, Germany, and died 8 March 1958 in Bavaria. Between 1930 and 1956 he made well over 50 films. After WWII, it took almost five years for Diehl to land a starring film role perhaps because of his Nazi connections.
