
Johannes Heesters ~ This is a nice cigarette card published in 1936 as part of the Bunte Filmbilder series one. It is card #38. Size: just over 1¼" x 2¼" (about the size of a US cigarette card). The edges are gilt and showing slight wear. Overall the condition is very fine.
Johannes Heesters or Jopie began his film career with The Dutch Circus in 1924. Although Dutch by birth, Heesters gained great fame in Germany where he was particularly popular during World War II. He is the most famous Count Danilo from Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow) whom he played for 32 years from 1938 to 1970 on stage. He died in December 2011 at age 108.
