Historian and author William B. Breuer gives a most unconventional look at World War II in this entertaining and informative book. He reveals little known schemes, ruses, masquerades, illusions and nuggets of espionage of military commanders and intelligence agencies through over eighty tales. Unlike the courageous battles, heroic fighting and exploits of conventional warfare, the secret missions disclosed here have been kept...well, secret - no matter how successful they were. And many of the successes were, in fact, brilliant.

Some of the accounts include: stealing Hitler's secret weapon; financing an FBI coup; "smuggling" ships to England; unmasking German spies; sending Nazis to tour the White House; Greta Garbo doing undercover work for the British; sending Little Wanda, a Polish Jew, to assassinate German officers; a German plot to kidnap Pope Pius XII; and many more exciting true-life tales.

Breuer collected these stories through personal interviews, official archives, declassified documents, books, articles, and magazines. This unusual book is absolutely fascinating, a must read for WWII buffs and anyone interested in the world of espionage during this period.
