Classics Illustrated #143, Kim by Rudyard Kipling, art by Joe Orlando, 1st edition. HRN 143. This era of CI is known as the EC artist period when many of the veterans of EC found work at Gilberton who, slightly lower page rates, handed out massive 48 page assignments unlike the 5 to 10 pagers from most other publishers. Stan Lee might give you work for a week but L.B. Cole, Gilberton's art director, would keep an artist working for three months. Orlando's work on Kim is some of the best art he turned in for anybody, ever.
Vintage popular priced books, paperbacks, comic books, and magazines are subject to aging of the cheap internal paper, weakness or drying of the spine glue resulting in occasional loose pages, rusting of staples, and loss of original lamination (particularly early Dells). Previous bookseller's prices written lightly inside are typical and not considered a defect. I do not consider names written or stamped inside the book/magazine to be a serious defect but I note them if they are present. I do consider tape of any kind to be a serious defect and will only offer items with tape defects if they are particularly scarce or desirable. Previous seller's price tags may not be mentioned if unobtrusive.
