Alice in Wonderland - Classics Illustrated British Hardback Special Edition - NEW! ~ CCS Books, February 1, 2016. British Hardback Special Edition Classics Illustrated, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. This reprint of Classics Illustrated #49 is the first hardcover edition. Cover by T. Oughton, interior art by Alex Blum, adapted by unknown. Possibly the best of the original series adaptations but then I'm partial to Blum's art.
From the pen of legendary British author Lewis Carroll flows a tale of high fantasy. Alice in Wonderland is a magical romp through magical lands encountering wondrous creatures along the way. The reader will follow Alice as she chases after the white Rabbit with the pocket watch into a rabbit hole which transports her into a beautiful garden. As she changes her height by eating and drinking different potions and foods, she meets amazing creatures like a caterpillar smoking a hookah, the Cheshire Cat, The Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and Dormouse. After playing croquet with the Queen of Hearts, Alice meets up with the Mock Turtle and the Gryphon. How the tale ends is up to the reader to find out.
If you are this interested in Classics Illustrated then you probably know the story already. Albert Kanter moved the focus of the Classics Illustrated operation to England in the early-1960s. The new adaptations began appearing in Europe before America and eventually new American titles ceased while new British/European titles continued.
This is a brand new copy from the latest British printing of Classics Illustrated. It will come to you in NM/M condition just like it came to me from the publisher. The graphic with this lot description probably isn't the exact copy that you will get but it does represent the issue.* Looking for more Classics Illustrated? Check my eBay store! Don't see what you want? I stock the entire new line of Classics Illustrated so send me a message! See my eBay store for the Canadian/American edition of this title which has a line drawn cover not used in the British series.
Canada's Jack Lake Productions licensed the rights to Classics Illustrated from First Classics and began a new series of reprints in 2003 with the Classics Illustrated Junior line. Since then quite a few of the Juniors have been reprinted as well as several of the Classics Illustrated Special Issues and the main Classics Illustrated series. The first reprint from the main series was #124 War of the Worlds which was issued in both perfect bound and hardcover formats in 2005. In late 2007, Jack Lake Productions began republishing the regular titles of Classics Illustrated on a regular basis. The printings are in "regular" comic format, carry the full reorder list, and are HRN 170. In short, this is the first time Classics Illustrated has been done right since the 1960s. In turn, England's The Classic Comics Store licensed the rights to produce British editions from Jack Lake Productions in 2008 and released their #1 (War of the Worlds) in September. It now appears the sometime in 2015, Jack Lake lost their license and that Classic Comics Store picked it up. Issues in the British series have been stickered to cover the pounds price so that they might better be sold in the US and Canada. Most interestingly, Classic Comic Store has now started a deluxe hardcover series.
