Liane Haid - She exuded glamour! ~ Very nice vintage cigarette card from circa 1934. Card is #90 in the Our Colorful Film Photos (Unsere Bunten Filmbilder) series. It measures about 2" x 2¼". This particular example is in fine condition especially for a card that is over 80 years old.
Liane Haid (1895-2000) Married to Baron Fritz von Haymerle, Liane Haid's film career came to a practical halt in 1937 although she did make two more films, one in 1940 and the next in 1953. It might have been a refusal to work under the then Nazi dominated film industry that halted Haid's career or her marriage to von Haymerle, but halt it did. After the Nazi revolution, Dr. Joseph Goebbels, Reich's Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, achieved Gleichschaltung or coordination of the German film industry. Goebbels moved to eliminate Jews and liberals from the production of films. By 1937, the Nazi party had virtual control of all films produced in Germany and in 1940 the motion picture industry was nationalized. Still, dissidents and nonconformists found refuge in the Nazi film world. German film and theater people quickly divided into two camps, those who cooperated and worked with the Nazis and those who did not. Obviously, there were extremes in each group. Merely working in the escapist cinema of the war years should not necessarily carry the Nazi stigma. The stars of the Nazi epics and anti-Semitic films, however, carry the taint of an evil regime.
Liane Haid died on 28 November 2000, in Bern, Switzerland. She was 105 year old! This cigarette card is nearly 90 years old and is in excellent condition.
Filmography as Actress:
Large photos are shown smaller than actual size while small ones are generally enlarged to as much as twice their original size. Almost all photos and cards are scanned through protective sleeves or pages which tends to cut the clarity a bit. Enlarged defects tend to look worse than they actually are.
